Alternatives to a retainer for a vertical labret

I just interviewed at a new prospective job, and they said if they were to hire me I'd have to remove my vertical labret.

I've only had it for nine months, and am no wear near ready to let go of it yet, but they also said they'd had employees try retainers, and that didn't work for some apparent reason.

I tried taking mine out yesterday just to test, and it was difficult to get it back in after an hour and a half. So just keeping it out for shifts isn't an option.

I was trying to think of some kind of acrylic cord or something I could buy (perhaps like fishing line or round lanyard lace or something) to put in my piercing and cut to size daily, that I could just push out at the end of my shift in favor of a bar.

I really need the job, so I'm clearly going to have to try and figure something out if they hire me.
My piercing is a 16g, I believe 7/16" curved barbell. Any ideas/suggestions?

I'm hoping I don't have to just suck it up and let it heal.

Do not use fishing line...it isn't large enough to keep your piercing open for a ring and after a few hours everyday it can ruin your piercing...my suggestion is getting a clear retainer that's the same size as your current ring and wearing that...if u have trouble getting it in go to the piercer but DON'T force it your piercing can tear and cause damage to your lips...I have a vertical labret of my own so I understand and I hope this helps
